01 / THE BRIEF

Start with the work.
Not the transfer.

Ama is renovating her family’s home in Accra. She has agreed a US$50,000 project with a local contractor but she cannot be on site for every decision.

The contractor needs a funded commitment, not a promise of later deposits. Ama needs to know that funding the project does not hand over every payment before the work is done.

On Crednce, they start with one shared agreement.

THE AGREEMENT

Illustrative

Accra home renovation

Three milestones. An agreed scope for each.

01Roof replacementThe milestone we follow
US$12,000
02Electrical upgradesLater work
US$18,000
03Interior finishesLater work
US$20,000
Original scopeUS$50,000
What counts as complete?

For the roof milestone, the agreement specifies the selected materials, installation, finishing and site clean-up.

Required proof includes site photographs and an arranged independent inspection report. Electrical work and interior finishes belong to their own milestones.

02 / THE FUNDING

The whole project funded.
Each release earned.

Ama funds and locks the full US$50,000 before work begins. The roof has a US$12,000 allocation, and US$38,000 is reserved for the electrical and interior milestones.

No payment has been released in this snapshot. Each allocation stays locked until its milestone is completed and approved; the contractor does not rely on Ama making later deposits.

Funding the deal is not the same as paying the contractor.

US$12,000 + US$38,000 = US$50,000. All three milestone allocations are funded and locked before work begins. No later deposit is needed for the original scope.

These fictional USD values are not a quotation or an available payment corridor. Fees, taxes, currency conversion, methods and funding arrangements must be confirmed for a real deal.

03 / THE PROOF

“The roof is done.”
Now connect it to the proof.

The contractor submits the roof milestone. Ama can compare the submission with the requirements they agreed without reconstructing the project from a message thread.

For this example, they arranged an independent inspection. The report belongs beside the site photographs, not in a separate conversation.

Evidence submitted does not mean work accepted.

MILESTONE REVIEW

Awaiting client review

Site photographsWork, materials and finishing

Ama checks that the views relate to the agreed roof work. Photographs support her review; they do not independently certify structural safety.

Inspection reportIndependent review, arranged for this deal

The arranged reviewer checks the work against the relevant requirements and records any exceptions. Specialist availability, qualifications and cost must be confirmed for a real project.

Provider noteWhat was completed and what to review

The contractor connects the submission to the scope and identifies anything outstanding. A note does not replace the agreed evidence.

Explore the example above. No real evidence files are attached.

What can Ama do next?

Approve the work when the requirements are satisfied, request changes for something outstanding, or raise an issue under the agreed process.

Approval leads to the applicable release process. Payment is not marked settled until the payment partner confirms it.

04 / THE CHANGE

A new request.
Not a hidden extra.

While the roof is being reviewed, Ama asks for a different paint finish on the later interior milestone.

The contractor records the proposed extra work, price and time. Both can see the difference before treating it as part of the project.

The original agreement stays the reference until they agree a change.

Explore the change

Ama can accept the proposal, decline it or request revised terms. Until agreement, this extra is not part of the accepted US$50,000 scope and no new funding is implied.

If accepted, the revised scope, proof and deadline are recorded. Ama must fund and lock the full US$1,500 addition before the extra work starts. Acceptance alone is not funding or permission to release payment.

THE DIFFERENCE IS THE RECORD

Less chasing updates.
More knowing what’s next.

Ama is still in London. The contractor is still on site. But the next decision has a shared reference: what was agreed, what was submitted and what still needs to happen.

  1. 01 Agreed scope
  2. 02 Connected evidence
  3. 03 Recorded decision
  4. 04 Confirmed payment status
How does this milestone finish?

In a successful continuation of this example, any outstanding requirements are resolved and Ama approves the roof work. The already-funded US$12,000 roof allocation then follows the release and payment-partner process.

After confirmed settlement, US$12,000 has been paid and US$38,000 remains locked for the later milestones. No new deposit is needed for them. This example does not execute a transaction or guarantee an outcome.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

A few practical
questions.

Start with the project and the arrangement you actually need.

Can there be a separate materials milestone?

Yes. Define a verifiable materials milestone in the agreed scope before funding the whole project. Its allocation is released only after that milestone is completed and approved. The client cannot fund just the first stage and promise the rest later.

Do the photographs replace an inspection?

No. Photographs help a review, but do not by themselves establish structural safety or compliance. For work that needs a qualified professional, agree the inspection, reviewer, evidence requirements, availability and cost before proceeding.

What if the client and contractor disagree?

Record the issue against the milestone and its evidence. The parties can respond, propose a resolution and escalate through the applicable process. The outcome depends on the agreement and payment status; an already-settled payment is not automatically reversed.

Crednce connects the agreement, evidence and payment decisions. Payment partners handle processing and settlement. Confirm supported locations, methods, fees, verification services and the applicable terms before committing funds.
